Caterham, Oxted & Godstone Lions Club’s Annual Swimathon took place at de Stafford School and was attended by over 90 swimmers in 14 teams. The ‘most lengths’ category was won by Godstone’s Taekwondo Club who completed 73 lengths in 25 minutes – they must be fit! The Lions fielded a team which completed 53 lengths – well done them too! The whole event was safely managed and all the children and parents present said how much they enjoyed the afternoon.
Another very popular Trivia Quiz was held in in the White Hart Barn in June, which raised £835. Grateful thanks to Quizzing Team Lion Tony S and his wife Brenda. There was tie break to establish the winning team, where the question was ‘How many countries are there in Africa?’ The winning team’s name was Haven’t a Clue, but they obviously did have! (There are 58 countries in Africa…)
There will be another Trivia Quiz on 28 September – book early to avoid disappointment!
As far a social activities are concerned, a small group of members went to the Miller Centre to see Handbagged. Combining social and business, the club held a delightful Bring & Share Lunch, at which Lion President Tony Gordon was re-installed for another year of service. The event was held at Herons Bonsai by kind permission of Peter Chan.
BUT….as mentioned before, (quoting The Beatles) the Lions need HELP…..at Godstone August Bank Holiday Fete. The marquee goes up on Sunday needing ‘all hands and more’ and on Monday burgers must be flipped and hot drinks provided for the masses who attend this delightful event. (And the marquee taken down afterwards, of course!)
We are grateful to friends who have already stepped forward offering to help but there is room for a few more. If you or anybody you know is willing to give a hand – every little bit helps – please ring Lion John on 01883 742680
PLEASE NOTE: The Lions’ Hot Food Stall will be CASH ONLY – card machines don’t work too well in the middle of The Green!
If you would like to know more about your local Lions Club, the person to speak to is Lion Tony, on 01883 741809 – he would be delighted to chat to you.
