Hello, and welcome to the November issue of the Tandridge Independent!
Well, the John Lewis advert is out and by my book that means it’s officially countdown to the big day! If you’re anything like me, then the darker nights and colder weather will have you getting out all the warm winter woolies in your wardrobe, and finding excuses to drink hot chocolate at any opportunity. I know lots of people don’t like the dark evenings but for me it’s the perfect excuse to put on my pyjamas the moment I get home!
However, if you are one of those people that really dreads this time of year, we’ve got a couple of articles that might help. On page 11, Oxted’s Well Life Clinic gives us some tips to help us glow through autumn, or head straight to page eight and soak up the Turks and Caicos sun, courtesy of Travel Smarter…
Talking of the Well Life Clinic, the Tandridge Independent recently held our second networking event there, with local businesses and residents from across the district attending. Thank you so much to Bayou, Premit, Melissa and the team for their fabulous hosting, as well as their much valued support for the paper over the last year. This month, as you’ll have seen from our front page, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet The Great British Bake Off’s Leighton, who lives in Tandridge. He was great company – and even sent me home with chocolate cake and cookies, which was a real treat.
I am also delighted to introduce all our readers to Danny – the rescue dog who brings joy to everybody he meets. We spoke to his owner Juliet, who explained why she decided he would make the perfect therapy dog, and also heard from the care home and school that Danny regularly visits to find out just why they love him so much. What a good boy!
Deputy editor Rosalind went along to Epsom Picturehouse to view Surrey County Council’s screening of short film The Run, part of a national campaign to find more safe, loving homes for children in care. Find her report on page 10 – and if you have been thinking about fostering, head to SCC’s YouTube channel to watch The Run for yourself.
Catherine Sayer’s column this month brings us the winners of the second Tandridge Business Awards – it’s great to see so many brilliant Tandridge businesses being recognised and rewarded for everything they do.
