Letter from the editor – October 2025

Welcome to the October issue!

Here we are then, heading rapidly towards the end of the year. I hope you are enjoying the beautiful autumn colours that have been appearing across the district: Rosalind and I certainly have been, as we get out and about gathering news for youl

In this month’s issue we celebrate the amazing amount of money raised by Godstone Farm for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, hear about the fun some of our Beavers had at the recent Beavers Go Wild camp and take a look around Tandridge to see the events coming up over the next few weeks.

And of course we have information and advice from your regular expert columnists. Athlete Jack Kavanagh shows us how to adapt our running to the colder, wetter weather that’s coming our way, Seema Midha from EJ Coombs Solicitors explains legal aid and Oxted’s Well Life Clinic tells us why cervical screening is so important. And if the darker nights are not your thing, Travel Smarter’s sunny Stunning Sardinia feature might be just what you need!

Styled Right, in Church Walk, Caterham, celebrated their second anniversary this month and I have been sporting a few of their collections recently, as well as adding some items as staples to my wardrobe. I’m excited to see what they unveil as this year’s festive outfit!

The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle began in early May and is still running outstanding performances at its very own theatre which is set in the castle grounds. I was there a few weeks ago to enjoy one of the performances and I would highly recommend visiting their website (heverfestival.co.uk) to see which shows and events they’ve got planned for the rest of the year.

I’ve also been stopping by Flower Farm on my travels recently. Breakfast on a Sunday morning with Farmer Patrick, before stocking up on baked goodies, fruits and vegetables from the farm shop have become a habit lately!

Oxted has just seen the opening of the Park Hub at Master Park and what a fantastic space it is! I’m hoping to attend a few of the classes and workshops there in the coming months and Rosalind and I have added it to our list of places for our planning meetings. We’ll be hearing more about this new community asset from the hardworking chair of the Master Park Pavilion Charity, Pammy McNaughton, in November’s issue.

Half term will soon be upon us and we’ve brought you the opportunity to win some fun at Godstone Farm! Just send an email to our competition email address or like and follow us on Instagram (@tandridgeindependent) to be in with the chance to win a family ticket. I’m heading there for Halloween, as well as their brilliant low bangs fireworks!

Our Independent News Hour radio show returns to the airwaves at the end of October and we have a fantastic line up of local businesses and residents (and the odd celebrity!) scheduled to take part. For more information, follow us on @tandridgeindependent and@tandridgeindependentjourney as we countdown to our first show. And contact us if you would like to be a part of the show!

As always, thank you for picking up the paper. We are the only free local newspaper across Tandridge and we appreciate your support and feedback too!

Your news. Your community. Your paper.

Enjoy the month!
