St Mary’s community pool opens

On Friday, 27 September, in the pouring rain, a celebration was held to mark the official opening of the community pool at St Mary’s Primary School in Oxted, following a large fundraising campaign. Many of the supporters who had helped the project reach completion were there to witness head girl Nina Son cut the ribbon and head boy Freddie Mason sound the hooter, setting the sports captains off on a novelty swim relay.

Executive headteacher Mrs Sarah Lewis said:

“I am so grateful to all the parents and children who helped us by running sponsored events: from Your Fund Surrey, Oxted Parish Council and Tandridge District Council for their grants, to our surveyors McConvilles, our contractors Cresta, and the amazing premises team at the school who coordinated everything. We now have a pool of which we can be proud, and which will be enjoyed by generations to come!”

The current swim season is coming to an end, and a plan for the season which starts in April 2025 is under way. The school is interested in hearing from swim schools and providers interested in blocking spaces for community access. Please email lettings@stmarysprimary.org.
