Welcome to my new column for the Tandridge Independent!
I’d like to start by saying a big thank you to those of you who visited our Caterham office in February to join in with our Go Red for Heart Month event.
You created 30 messages of thanks and love that made up our Caring Hearts in Caterham window display, as well as downloading the RevivR app – which teaches elements of CPR in just 15 minutes – 60 times. On top of that, we also raised £50 for the British Heart Foundation!
However, we can do more, so if you haven’t already, please download the RevivR app using the QR code here.

The advantages of live-in care
This month, I want to provide you with some information about live-in care.
What is it?
It’s when your carer lives as well as works in your home, so they can provide care whenever you need it.
When is live-in care appropriate?
For clients with high needs care, who cannot be left alone or who live-in rural areas, live-in care can be an alternative to going to a residential care home. It helps support a client’s wish to remain in their own home.
How does it work?
The carer both lives and works in their client’s home, staying in their own room. Typically, the carer supports the client with their morning and evening routines, undertakes some housekeeping, prepares freshly cooked meals and provides companionship.
They also accompany their client to community and social events and spends quality time with them. The carer should have a daily two-hour break, to rest and recharge. During the night, the carer provides a sleeping night service for security and reassurance, only waking for emergencies.
What are the advantages?
Clients are able to stay in their own familiar surroundings, with their pets, partner, garden and all their belongings. There is lots of evidence to support the idea that people are more likely to thrive in their own environment.
They will have one dedicated carer, to provide them with care when it is needed: there’s no waiting for the carer to arrive, and they will not be in a rush to leave, so the client can build a strong bond with them.
If more than seven hours of care a day with a single carer is needed, then live-in care is cost effective, with a sleeping night thrown in.
