Local resident Peter Crowe has been a member of the of Surrey Downs Golf Club for the past decade and recently won the SkyCaddie Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Pro-Captain Challenge.
He was selected to go to the tournament as a pair alongside Craig Cowper, after they won the qualifier at the Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club earlier this year. There were only 10 regional qualifiers within the UK and Ireland and so winning it was a great achievement for the pair!
The annual competition was held in Italy, supported by Prostate Cancer UK. In line with tradition and the commitment needed for the role, most people only hold the position of captian for a year, so Peter probably won't have the opportunity to enter the tournament again.
Their prize included the trophy, together with the title PGA Captain Pro Challenge Winner 2019. Peter said:
Winning it was incredible for me. My captaincy ends this week and so to finish my year on such a high point was amazing. I don't think I'll win anything bigger playing golf.
