2023 marked Caterham town crier Sonia Hunt’s 20th year in the role. She was given a special celebration at Soper Hall in November, with over 90 people from local shops, businesses and organisations there to recognise her achievement. The event was also attended by Eliza Anderson-Watson, representing the Loyal Company of Town Criers, of which Sonia is also a member.
Sonia described her evening as ‘truly amazing’:
“I was very honoured that so many people came – thank you so much. It was a great honour to meet Eliza as well. I would also like to say thank you to all my managers, counsellors, colleagues and friends for supporting me through these 20 years. I have really enjoyed doing this historical tradition: history is one of my greatest passions, and it has been wonderful meeting different people from all walks of life.”
