Caterham Cricket Club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in England, celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
Caterham Park Cricket Club was founded on 26, August 1873. In 1876, it merged with the original Caterham Cricket Club (there are no records as to when this club began), and again in 1946 with the Spartans of Caterham. In 1953 the ‘Park’ was dropped from the name, and it has remained Caterham Cricket Club ever since.
On Sunday, 6 August, the club, supported by the Rotary Club of Caterham, are holding a community day at their ground in Park Avenue. There are all kinds of cricket activities taking place, including 6-a-side, an under-15s’ tournament, Kwik cricket and free kids’ coaching, and there will also be a bar, barbecue, Pimms and an ice cream van.
(There’s free parking and free entry too!)
