The 132nd Caterham & District Horticultural Society Spring Show took place at the Westway Centre, Caterham, on 15 April.
Local residents placed 100 entries into the competition, with a quarter of them coming from children aged between 4 and 13 years old.

Nine-year-old Abbie Jewell won first prize for her colourful picture of vegetables, and the 9th Caterham Guides took home prize money from Caterham Valley Parish Council, plus the Woolwich Shield, for their tabletop display ‘Coronation’. Siblings Morganna, nine, and Caden Evans, 13, shared the Woolwich Building Society Cup for the most first prizes in the children’s classes. Caden was also awarded the Tesco Caterham Cup for his picture of a royal carriage, and Morganna was given the Ray and Mary Cup for the highest number of points in the children’s classes.

In the adult classes, Sue Anderson won the Ladies’ Challenge Cup and the Spring Cookery Cup for her cooking, and the Spring Cup went to Peter Daniels for his tulips. Debbie Fox received five trophies for her floral art and daffodils, with the floral art judge stating how impressed she was with the overall quality of the submitted arrangements.

The prizes were presented by society president Jeremy Webster, who also thanked the show’s organisers and volunteer helpers.
The society’s next event is their annual plant sale on Westway Common on 10 June, and the Autumn Show will be held on Saturday, 16 September.
