Penny Kirk, of Hurst Green, is one of eight community champions who have received a Make a Difference award from BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Radio Surrey.
Penny runs two children’s playgroups in Oxted, and regularly collects and delivers donations for local charities. She also coordinated an enormous drive for vital clothing, food, and medical supplies following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
The awards, which recognise people who have made outstanding contributions to their community, have been running for eleven years.
Executive producer/presenter for BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Radio Surrey, Mark Carter, said:
“I’m thrilled we’ve been able to recognise so many amazing people and organisations making a difference across the local area. Their contributions can often fall under the radar, so this is the perfect opportunity to say thank you.”
The ceremony took place at Ashdown Park Hotel, near East Grinstead, on Monday, 26 September.
