Laura O'Connor graduated from Hull University with a degree in theatre studies, and has been involved in the events industry since 2005. She began as a lighting technician for corporate events, before moving into project manager roles. During this time, she worked in iconic venues such as the Natural History Museum and Kensington Palace.
Setting out on her own
After finishing her maternity leave in December 2019, Laura decided to launch her own events company. Her chosen name, Gift Wrapped Events, derived from the idea that she would be a one-stop shop for her clients: providing everything they needed for their parties and functions, right down to the smallest detail.
When the pandemic forced the events industry to close in 2020, Laura became adept at quickly adapting her new business to the ever-changing government guidelines. This included her idea for bell tents and teepees, which could be used in gardens, and proved to be extremely popular.
Helping the community
Laura is committed to helping the community through her business when she can, and she recently donated free balloon garlands for the Easter Egg Hunt in Grange Park. As well as this, she will be providing a bell tent lounge set-up for the Jubilee picnic on Chipstead Meads on Sunday, 5 June.
Laura also collaborates with local catering and baking businesses, to add the delicious finishing touches to her events.
Laura’s vision
Laura has a bold five-year plan for her business. She aims to open a Gift Wrapped Events house, allowing her to host teepee sleepovers inside and bell tent parties in the garden: perfect for hosts who don't have the space in their own homes to fit everything in!
