It's springtime! That means it's the start of the cricket season, and the National Trust Six Brothers' Ground in Chaldon, home to Chaldon CMO Cricket Club for a number of years, is sprouting new shoots.
In partnership with First Ball Cricket Academy, affectionately known as FBA, this year the ground will see its first ever junior section. FBA ran a taster session on Sunday 24 April and will be running regular coaching there on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
FBA, a not-for-profit Pay What You Can Cricket Academy, has been running in-school sessions, after-school clubs and Academy Training at several school and cricket club hubs throughout Croydon since April 2021.
Founder Trevor Fordyce said:
"We are really excited to have a home ground at the Six Brothers site, and aim to establish a long-term partnership with the community, developing a passion for cricket in children so they want to carry on playing into adulthood."
Children can start with FBA as complete beginners or to improve club and school cricket, with fun, interactive and competitive coaching sessions and matches. You can find out more at www.firstballacademy.com.
