I can’t believe we are already in November, traditionally a time when bonfires and fireworks mark Guy Fawkes night.
Please spare a thought for the district's firemen, on what is likely to be one of their busiest times of the year. This vintage pic (taken by the Bunce Brothers, of Caterham), shows the Caterham Fire Brigade crew proudly posing with their gleaming engine in November 1928, outside the Caterham Valley Fire Station.
This originally stood in Harestone Valley Road, to the left of Soper Hall, but was demolished some years ago. Caterham used to have two fire stations: the one on the Hill was on the corner of High Street and Chaldon Road, and a replica of the original engine house can still be seen on its original site.
