Bradmore Green Library, Coulsdon, is one step closer to remaining open after Croydon Council’s announcement that it needed to reduce its expenditure. A second public consultation, which ran from 1 June until 26 July, proposed three ideas for the future of its libraries: reducing service hours by 21% across the borough; outsourcing management for all 13 libraries, or creating five community-run libraries while the other eight reduce their opening hours.
The council received 1,411 survey responses, with option one emerging as the most favourable solution. On 16 August, a Croydon Council cabinet meeting heard concerns about the effect this course of action would have on young people, the community and any affected library staff: however, they agreed to recommend the proposal to a meeting of the full council at a later date.
