The Family Hangout

The Family Hangout playgroup, for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups, is a new children’s activity, based at The Arc in Caterham. Owner Emily plays a ‘90s soundtrack for the adults, teaming it with creative group activities, imaginative and active play, plus songs and dancing, for the little ones.

Emily says:

"I wanted to open a local playgroup with a relaxed and welcoming feel for families, especially for those experiencing their first baby and toddler sessions since lockdown. Our uniqueness is in the feel good vibes that we create with music, and our group activities, which encourage confidence, independence and learning in the babies and toddlers. A bonus is seeing our families connect with one another, share tips and stories, chat and laugh!”

Emily uses early years’ equipment, upcycled playgroup toys and homemade, crafted, props. The activities can be anything from messy play to five-minute activities that you can replicate at home.

From online to real life

The Family Hangout Surrey was originally created on social media, during the 2020 lockdown, charting Emily’s family pursuits, and sharing other local businesses and community groups. In June 2021, she opened a physical meeting space at The Arc, with sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
