I recently commissioned Hayley, from HM Photolines, to make a picture for my husband as a 15th anniversary present. I met Hayley at The Soper Hall Homegrown and Handmade monthly fair at the beginning of the year, and was amazed by her talent. Being a creative person, I am always looking for innovative and bespoke ideas for family and friends’ presents (as well as for my own home!) and her photo line drawings were just what I was looking for!
Hayley created a print comprising various locations that my husband and I have visited over the past 20 years. I loved that I was able to tailor and personalise each component, so that it replicated the exact spot we had been to. Our memories are all there, in one place, and the print now has a prime spot at the top of my staircase!
Creative memories
HM Photolines was created during lockdown in 2020, when Hayley had an idea for artwork that captured places she had travelled to.
She draws the images on her computer, combining different layers of lines, and line thicknesses, to create as little or as much detail as necessary. Some are simple, while others are much more intricate. After seeing her pictures, Hayley’s friends were keen to request commissions and, consequently, HM Photolines was born. During the last lockdown, Hayley spent time drawing Caterham’s buildings and shops, before compiling a Caterham colouring book. A limited number are still available from her Etsy store (www.etsy.com/shop/photolines), together with other drawings, which can be bought as prints or downloads.
