Ex-Liverpool player and current Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is bringing his award-winning football academy to Whyteleafe FC, in an exciting development for the club.
After founding the academy in Liverpool almost a decade ago, Gerrard is now establishing a fully funded, full-time football and education programme at Whyteleafe’s Church Road ground, in partnership with Ian Rush and iRama Sport. Opening in September 2021, the academy will help its students to progress their football careers, with the aim of future graduates becoming professional coaches, sports scientists and high-level players, or taking up media roles.
The Caterham Independent attended the academy’s taster session on 14 April, alongside 50 ambitious teenagers. They watched presentations and were put through their paces by UEFA qualified coaches.
Successful academy applicants will gain level three qualifications, receive elite level coaching and undertake work experience in the local community. As well as continuing to play for their current clubs, they will also have the opportunity to represent the academy in competitive fixtures in the UK and abroad.
Academy Director Gerrard says:
“We are thoroughly looking forward to launching the academy in Surrey. The south of England has consistently produced talented players, coaches and specialists in football – we are passionate about playing our part in supporting the next generation to kick on and achieve their goals.''
Students currently in years 10, 11 or 12 who wish to join the Steven Gerrard Academy's next taster session can register their interest via email: info@stevengerrardacademy.com or through Instagram direct message @stevengerrard.academy.
