May is Local and Community History Month, an initiative by the Historical Association to ‘increase awareness of local history, promote history in general to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate.’
We recently spoke to Peter Connelly, curator of Caterham’s East Surrey Museum, about the important role museums play in their communities.
Although it has had to remain closed so far this year, the museum’s staff have still been busy looking after the exhibits and dealing with enquiries from people who used their time during lockdown to research their family trees.
The video of our interview with Peter is now on our YouTube channel, which can be found by searching for ‘The Caterham and District Independent’.
The East Surrey Museum plans to reopen on 19 May.
