Sport England Fund Helps Local Cancer Residents

I am delighted to share with you the news of our recent successful bid to Sport England’s Tackling Inequalities Fund. Freedom Leisure applied for funding to deliver a physical activity programme for Tandridge residents who are living with cancer or have a cardiac condition. The funding we have received for residents allows us to offer four cycles of a 6 week programme of tailored physical activity with our Level 4 qualified cancer& cardiac trainer, Anita Asghar.

This would be ideal for any Tandridge resident who is finishing cancer/cardiac treatment in hospital or a resident who is no longer requiring hospital care but has a cardiac condition or is living with cancer who would benefit from a specific tailored programme.

‘Studies have shown that activity levels reduce significantly following cancer diagnosis, but exercise interventions have great potential to improve the health and wellbeing of people who have been affected by cancer’ (taken from canrehab.co.uk 2018) Our objective is to address this research and offer a service to support the transition from cancer/cardiac treatment in hospital into daily life. After the funded programme ends we also have options to continue with a physical activity session in our established Exercise Referral programme at de Stafford Sports Centre led by qualified trainers.

If you know of someone this would benefit or would like more information, please email me or call on 07852986914 for an informal chat.
Please feel free to ring me if you can help, our next course is due to run in three weeks.
