Last month saw the opening of the latest Zabardast outlet on Godstone Road, Whyteleafe. The Caterham Independent went along on the opening evening and met the Zabardast team and had the opportunity of sampling one of their delicious wraps.
Zabardast is a local family business and has grown from a single store in Waterloo seven years ago to a full Quick Service Restaurant concept comprising a central kitchen hub in Kenley and eight stores including Centrale Shopping Centre, Bluewater Shopping Centre, Canary Wharf and now the latest addition in Whyteleafe.
I asked why Zabardast chose Whyteleafe for its latest addition and the founders said that due to the pandemic and lockdown, many people have experienced the benefits of working from home and wanted the same quality and service from a local provider that they had been used to in the City. The concept of a Suburban Zabardast was therefore born while locked-down at home with a focus on Online Ordering, Delivery and Click & Collect. Within three months the concept, technology and logistics were implemented so that Zabardast Whyteleafe could open on 17th August.
Zabardast means awesome in Persian and Urdu and the response from the local community to the amazing Indian flavours, packaged in a modern wrap context, has also been awesome. The wraps are complemented by a range of delicious healthy Indian salads, Curry Boxes, Biryani Boxes and Thalis along with drinks such as Mango Lassi and Rose Lassi with dessert favourites such as Gulab Jamun and Rusgulla.
