Last month, I was delighted to see the Caterham Beacon being lit to honour the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day. As we continue to come out of the pandemic I hope to see many more of you soon.
As part of my attempt to have ‘a Green-tember’ – a month focussed on environment issues – I will be litter-picking with Caterham residents on the 5th September. I will also be hosting a virtual Q&A on the Environment for East Surrey residents on 28th September at 10.15am with Zac Goldsmith, Minister for the Environment, and long-standing Green champion in Parliament.
Although there are some signs our economy is starting to bounce back, we will continue to face difficult times as businesses and sectors contend with a new normal. I know that aviation will be particularly affected which is something I will be raising on my East of Surrey Local Economic Taskforce and as part of the Gatwick Coordination Group of MPs. I am pleased to have been asked to sit on the Surrey Growth Board chaired by Surrey County Council Leader Tim Oliver. As the only sitting MP I look forward to raising the issues facing the East of Surrey.
I know this has been an anxious time for students and teachers, I thank you for your messages which I have worked on with Ministers. I would like to especially thank those who have been working on getting schools up and running for the Autumn. As someone who used to work in social justice and education, I am extremely hopeful that students can now resume their normal learning routines.
Lastly as Parliament returns, I will continue to raise constituents’ issues. If you would like my help or to join in with the events above you can contact me on: claire.coutinho.mp@parliament.uk
