Letter From the Editor – March 2020

Welcome to March’s edition of the Caterham and District Independent.
It’s hard to believe that this is already the fourth edition of your new-look paper. We’ve had a steep learning curve, with a few hurdles to negotiate on the way, but my fantastic team have supported each other and our lovely readers have been patient and encouraging, so thank you for that!

Each month gets a little easier as we acclimatise to the demands of running a newspaper. We’ll continue to grow and to support local businesses, and our community, by delivering the news right to your doorstep.

I’d also like to thank all the people who’ve been advertising with us. We’re a free paper, which means that we’re funded by adverts, and I’ve been delighted by the interest shown so far. If you’d like your business to be widely seen across the Tandridge area or you’d like our Social Media Team to promote you across our platforms please get in touch today.

As I write this letter it’s still cold outside, but there are definite signs that winter is ready to move on. Looking out of my office window I can see crocuses, daffodils and snowdrops with their glorious flashes of colour livening up the flowerbeds. It’s lighter for longer in the evenings now (don’t forget the clocks go forward on 29th March) and the occasional glimpses of blue sky keep me hopeful that warmer weather will be here soon!

The start of spring is exciting, ripe with possibility. We all have aspirations but often the day-to-day gets in our way and we don’t realise how fast the months are passing by.

Perhaps we should follow the advice of author Paulo Coelho: “Never allow waiting to become a habit. Live your dreams and take risks. Life is happening now.” I know there’s so much that I want to do this year: how about you?
With that in mind, there’s a lot going on in March, both in Surrey and around the UK: Sunday 8th is International Women’s Day, St Patrick’s Day is on Tuesday 17th March and Mother’s Day is on Sunday 22nd. Look out for your message in our Mother’s Day feature and make sure you enter our competition to win a fantastic spa day at a Marriott Hotel, the perfect present for a deserving mum and generously donated to us by ‘Not Just Travel’.

It was great to find out about another of the fabulous Ridge Radio presenters in February’s paper, and we’ve got another ‘Presenter of the Month’ on page 16. You can listen to the station at www.ridgeradio.co.uk.

We love receiving your thoughts for our ‘Points of View’ and Politics pages, so please write in and tell us your views on both local or national issues.

Look out for April’s edition, which will have our Easter Holidays Section as well as some great competitions!
